Useful Links to Encourage Academic Success
In order for your child to be as successful as they can in 3rd grade, they will have to utilize some "home" internet classroom resources. Your child has received a magnet with all of their password information, so please use as a handy reference when utilizing them. Here are a few that we'll be using, listed in order of importance (at least from me!) followed by a short summary of each:
If anyone knows of any other websites that would be beneficial for everyone to utilize, please feel free to send me an email. I can also post it on our website!!!!
- Moby Max: All-in-one learning tool (Reading comprehension, reading vocabulary, math facts, math practice) that we get to practice in school. Great practice for those upcoming online 3rd grade assessments in the Spring, and the students get rewarded with game time after practicing their skills
- Ten Marks: An online math learning software in which I assign different lessons that align with what we're learning in class. The feedback I get is instant, so it is easy for me to track the progress of each individual student
- Think Central: Your child will be given a list of very useful logins and passwords that are unique for only them to use for all websites, especially Think Central, which is the company in which our district has purchased both math and reading curriculum from. This site alone has an abundant list of either skill, broken down for a specific area with the ease of a click of a mouse
- ANY free typing game on the internet: Due to the increased use of tablets, some students come to class unprepared to publish a piece of writing on a keyboard. Practice at home typing will increase student familiarity with typing and unlock the "door" of familiarity with technology in general
- Online Storybooks/Books Read Aloud: AWESOME resources in which your child can access books FREE via the web along with videos or have books read aloud to them. Also, the books come pre-leveled for your convenience
- Spelling City: Fun, engaging spelling website where the students can practice their current spelling words related to the reading theme we are practicing in the classroom
- Khan Academy: This educational link contains various video tutorials in which both you and your child can browse through to view a certain concept and hear it being explained in real time. While an abundance of topics is covered, this site is especially beneficial when explaining math concepts
- Newsela: This is an online website where I assign articles that are related to current events, much like an online version of Weekly Reader or Scholastic News. Utilizing this resource will be beneficial for two reasons. First, the articles are relevant to today's world. Secondly, with more and more of education being paperless, this directly aligns with 21st Century learning
- Mathtific: Website that appears to be "games" to students but actually has content that is relevant to the current topics in our math curriculum. Students can also preview upcoming material to be covered in class, and I there are several homework assignments on this site
- Front Rowed: Like Mathtific, Front Rowed is a kid-friendly learning site where the graphics appear to may it look like a game. However, I really love this reading and math website because it is tailored to each individual student's skill level. Reading, writing, and math are effectively covered within this website.
