3rd Grade Keys to Success
A major determinant of your child's success in third grade is their ability to work independently, stay on task, and be organized. As the year progresses, I will expect more from them, since I make every attempt to be as consistent with my expectations and daily routine. Because of this, reminders will be less and less, so students get more time out of their day to be productive learners. However, they still have various resources they can utilize to help themselves stay on task, such as: the projector with the daily lessons in detail and verbal reminders from both peers and me!
- Although I may not assign as much homework as you may expect, I do highly encourage your child to read at least 25 minutes a night at home. Also, it may be helpful for you to have your child to write at least a couple of sentences after they read, to ensure that they understand what they're reading, and to give you a quick snapshot into their own insights about the text they may be interacting with
- If, at all possible, please have your child practice their typing skills at home. For the third year, all of our standardized tests that begin at the third grade level are computerized and require proficient typing skills from the student, in order to be successful on the tests. They will get exposure to the basics of this process in Technology class, but for them to become proficient, practice at home will be vital for them to become the best 21st century learner that they can be. Lastly, as the year goes on I will incorporate Chromebooks more and more into our daily lessons The more students are comfortable with using a device, the better enhanced their learning experience can be in 3rd grade and beyond.
